What is better to give gifts to foreigners?

Something with Chinese characteristics may be more suitable.

sending a gift to australia

When I was in China, I knew a foreign teacher from Xiamen University, who was from the United States, and her husband was from Iran (immigrated to the United States). Because she liked China and Xiamen, the whole family rented a high-end apartment near Xiamen University that overlooked Gulangyu Island. She also invited an aunt from Zhangzhou to come to the house to cook Chinese food, because she and her husband both love Chinese food.

When I visited her apartment for the first time, I found that many things were Chinese in nature, and these things were bought by her and her husband themselves, such as hanging red lanterns, such as Chinese paintings (Meilan Bamboo and Chrysanthemum) hanging on the wall, and the Four Treasures of the Study, which were kept in the bookcase.

I taught her son simple Chinese at the time, and gave me Canadian dark chocolate as a gift. In return, I gave them two things: a set of “Journey to the West” comic strips and a folding fan. They were pleasantly surprised, and then carefully placed them all in the bookcase, and took pictures and sent them to their families in the United States to share.

Later, I also had a “foreigner” husband and his family. When it comes to giving gifts, I also choose things with Chinese characteristics. I gave my mother-in-law and sister-in-law bookmarks (there are pandas, peacocks, goldfish playing under lotus flowers, etc.), Chinese knots, and colorful chopsticks with patterns engraved on them. They had never seen these things before, and after seeing them, they liked it very much. In addition, I also sent photo frames (different shapes, such as swans and carriages). Australian photo frames are very expensive compared to those sold in China, and the shapes are still single. Many are either square or rectangular. Everyone is also very happy.

In addition, Australians like refrigerator stickers very much. When I took my husband and mother-in-law to Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai, I bought refrigerator stickers from the Great Wall, Zhouzhuang, West Lake Leifeng Pagoda and Oriental Pearl respectively and brought them back to Australia. Refrigerator stickers are also quite practical: you can not only stick notepads on the refrigerator, but also decorate the refrigerator more beautifully.

The pictures above ☺️ The following pictures are all the things I bought on * cats for Australian in-laws over the years.
