Is there really “luck”?

The Book of Changes contains theprofound holistic view of the universe of our ancientpeople,pointing out that everything is composed of Yin and Yang, clarifying theprinciple of the emergence, development, evolution and transformation of everything, and reflecting the universal law of the movement of everything in the objective world.

“One yin and one yang is called Tao”. Everything in the world is masculine or feminine due to time andplace, and the changing law of masculinity and femininity is the law of the universe and life, that is, heaven and humanity. “The way to establish heaven, Yin and Yang, the way to stand on the ground, softness and rigidity, the way to establishpeople, benevolence and righteousness”. “Yi” contains the meaning of change, difficulty and simplicity. Everything in the universe is changed and difficult because of the yin and yang of the earth, rigidity and quietness, complexity and simplicity, contradiction and unity, opposition and harmony. This is the theory of yin and yang in the Book of Changes. “Easy to have Tai Chi means giving birth to two instruments, two instruments giving birth to four elephants, and four elephants giving birth to gossip, which determines good or bad luck, and good or bad luck gives birth to great cause”. Tai Chi is the vitality of mixing heaven and earth. This chaotic vitality either becomes masculine or feminine, with endless changes; And control Yin with Yang, and follow Yang with Yin. Gan Kun represents heaven and earth, and heaven is the space for clouds and rain, the root of all things, and the fundamental sun of nature; On the contrary, it is the big yin of the earth, and the vitality of the yin of the earth is the root of all things. Heaven is the master and the kinetic energy; And the earth is obedient andpassive. The laws of heaven are endless, and masculinity and femininity change alternately, making everything come into being; Only by maintaining harmony between Yin and Yang can everything develop, change and evolve smoothly. The alternation of yin and yang between heaven and earth makes the generation and development of all things endless, which is extremely subtle and elusive. This requires us to understand not only concrete and tangiblephenomena, but also the abstract and intangible nature ofphenomena. People’s body is small and insignificant, butpeople’s mental activities encompass the infinite universe, which is the metaphysical spirit of masculinity and femininity.

Laozi, who is regarded as the ancestor of the Taoist school, absorbed the essence of the Book of Changes and made the wonderful book Tao Te Ching, which is regarded as a Taoist classic. Itpoints out that Tao is the mother of all things, and that human beings are the mother of the earth, the earth is the mother of the heaven, the heaven is the mother of the Tao, and the Tao is natural. Laozi takes “nothing” as the Tao, and “being” is born from “nothing”, and tangible objects are born from intangible noumenon. “Being” and “nothing” are different and the same. “Tao” gives birth to the universe, and the universe gives birth to vitality, which constitutes heaven and earth, four seasons, yin and yang and gives birth to everything. “Doing nothing” is an important content of Laozi’s thought, and the strategy of governing the country should adopt “governing by doing nothing”, and cultivate one’s self-cultivation should adopt the attitude of “beingpure and doing nothing” and “being selfish and wanting less”; In dealing withpeople, Laozi highly values the characteristics of water, “weakness is better than strength”, “water is good for all things without contention, and it is evil for all”. Water has the mind of all rivers, so don’t show too much sharpness, but take the way of dealing with things by retreating.

On the basis of Laozi’s “inaction” thought, Zhuangzi emphasized that human beings and nature are completely harmonious and unified, and that “heaven and earth coexist with me, and everything is one with me”. Mencius also declared that “everything is ready for me, and it is not good to ask for it.” In ancient sages, the universe and the human body are integrated, and heaven and earth and spirit are naturally integrated. These views are the further development of the cosmology in the Book of Changes. “A man who is a man of great virtue is in harmony with heaven and earth, and the light is in harmony with the sun and the moon, with the four seasons and their sequence, with ghosts and gods and their bad luck, and is born against heaven, and the day after tomorrow is devoted to heaven.” People with noble virtues are in harmony with heaven and earth, and the light is in harmony with the sun and the moon. The Book of Changes holds that the code of conduct ofpeople who strictly graspthe truth of the universe is in line with society, and human beings are closely related to nature. This is the overall view of the universe in the Book of Changes.
