He then moved to Silicon Valley in California and planned to pursue a PhD in applied physics and materials science at Stanford University, but dropped out after two days of enrollment. Musk considered three fields he most wanted to enter, all of which he believes will have a profound impact on the future of humanity: the Internet, clean energy, and space.
